Owen is an educational psychologist and psychotherapist. He has a background in education, and in addition to work in schools has taught on the Doctorate programme for Educational Psychology at University College London. He is experienced in using a range of assessment techniques to determine individual needs and make appropriate recommendations.
As a psychotherapist, Owen has worked with adults, children and young people to help them solve problems in a range of areas including anxiety, phobias, depression and anger. His approach is grounded in Human Givens therapy, which involves listening carefully to the client and helping them towards finding solutions. The therapist encourages the client to draw on their own resources to get their emotional needs met in balance. A range of techniques may be used to match the client’s individual needs, including identifying unhelpful patterns of thinking, learning to relax and think about things in a more objective way, encouraging changes in lifestyle and activity and using the client’s imagination to rehearse success.
